Come join Francis for a day of painting at the Milton Art Gallery in Banchory

On a recent visit to the Milton Art Gallery, Kareen asked if I’d be interested in taking a painting workshop.

Although I have always enjoyed sharing my experiences with fellow painters, I hadn’t been thinking of doing another workshop (mostly because I wasn’t sure if I was up to the physical effort required for a full day ‘at the coal face’ any longer!)

However, once the seed was planted, it gave me an itch I had to scratch so I’ve decided to go ahead but with a compromise...

Rather than 10am to 4pm with an hour for lunch, the workshop will run from 10am to 3pm with a 30-minute coffee break at half way.

I’m hoping this will have 2 benefits:

  1. I might still be on my feet at the end; and
  2. I have lost count of the students whose work is looking great when we break for lunch but has gone backward by the close.

In my own practice I would consider 5 straight hours work in the studio to be too much. My concentration usually starts slipping around 3 hours and, unless I have break, I rarely take my work forward as I want. My hope is that a more ‘intense’ workshop with a shorter break will provide the best balance.

So, if you think this would suit you then come join me on Thursday 19th of March at the Milton Art Gallery in Banchory. The workshop will also be repeated on Saturday 28th of March to ensure anyone who works during the week but would like to attend can do so.

The workshop will very much focus on how I make my work and I’ll be sharing, in detail, my current studio practices.

I will be transporting as much of the contents of my studio as I can fit into the car, so there is no need to go out and purchase any special paints or other equipment just for the course - I work almost exclusively with acrylics and you will have the opportunity to work with exactly the same paints, brushes, boards etc. as I work with every day.

If you already have painting ‘gear’ which you are happy working with then please feel free to bring it along.

The Studio is a large well-equipped space, adjacent to the Milton Gallery, with free parking close by.

The cost for each workshop is £90 per person and there will be 10 spaces available per workshop.

If you would like to attend then please get in touch via email at boagart@me.com to confirm your place!

(Don't forget to include the date of the workshop you would like to attend - 19th or 28th)
