New houses, Ury
20 x 20 cm
Having lived on Ury Estate for many years, I’ve seen the place change in ways that gradually become part of the familiar view. This painting is about that newer layer of the estate - the houses gathered together in a cluster, still settling into the surrounding landscape...

Simple forms, perhaps, but the small, boxy shapes of houses appear often in Francis’ work.
They bring a sense of familiarity to the landscape, giving the viewer scale and perspective - little points of recognition in amongst all the colour....
A Frame of Reference
The finishing touch
The painting comes presented in a bespoke wooden tray frame with a black finish on the sides and metallic gold face.
The depth of the frame gives the work space to breathe, while the fitted D-rings and picture cord mean it arrives ready to hang!

The home studio collection
“When trying out new ideas or exploring new themes, it makes sense to work on a small scale. However, I know that, as far as my own work is concerned, I put as much thought and effort into my small paintings as for any of the bigger pieces. And, in fact, sometimes the smaller works, have a spontaneity or 'va va voom' which can be hard to replicate in larger work so I’m delighted to have found an exclusive outlet for these smaller works which are such a vital part of my creative output.”
